Iowa State "Cyclones" Athletics:
The Iowa State Cyclones (commonly referred to as the "'Clones") are the athletic teams of the Iowa State University. The university is a member of the Big 12 Conference and competes in NCAA Division I, fielding 16 varsity teams in 11 sports.
ISU's current Athletic Director is Jamie Pollard and has held his position since September 2005. Pollard has dramatically changed the direction of the Athletic Program. Since being hired, Pollard has hired new head coaches for football, men's basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, soccer, cross country/track and field, women's golf, tennis, and softball. Additionally, he has doubled the athletic budget and has initiated major renovations to Hilton Coliseum and Jack Trice Stadium.

Football:
The Iowa State Cyclones represent Iowa State University in college football. The Cyclones competes in the northern division of the Big 12 athletic conference in the NCAA's Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The Iowa State Cyclones play home games in Jack Trice Stadium, a stadium named after a player who incurred a fatal injury while playing for the Cyclones in 1923. The Cyclones are based out of Ames, Iowa. The stadium is currently under a major renovation which will include dozens of new luxury suites, broad new concourses, and bowling in the south end-zone. Renovations are scheduled to be completed for the 2010 season.
Basketball:
The Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I.
Greg McDermott is the current ISU men's basketball head coach. McDermott was hired on March 21, 2006, following the firing of previous head coach Wayne Morgan. His assistant coaches are T.J. Otzelberger, Jean Prioleau, and Jeff Rutter. Ron Smith is the ISU Director of Basketball Operations.
Baseball:
Iowa State Cyclones baseball was formerly fielded by Iowa State University from 1892 until the conclusion of the 2000-2001 season. Iowa State ceased to field a team because of what former Iowa State Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde termed "budget cuts". This was announced on April 2, 2001. Iowa State's last game was a 17-4 loss to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament on May 18, 2001.
Iowa vs Iowa State Rivalry:
The Iowa–Iowa State rivalry is a collegiate rivalry between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University and their athletic teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones. The two universities currently compete with each other in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series, which awards points for athletic victories over the other university. The two schools also compete for the Cy-Hawk Trophy, which is annually awarded to the winner of the football game between the two schools.
Iowa and Iowa State rank as the top two universities in Iowa in terms of enrollment. In the spring 2008 semester, Iowa, located in Iowa City, had 28,808 students. Iowa State, located in Ames, had 24,445. The two schools compete in a wide range of sports, including wrestling, golf, volleyball, soccer, cross country, swimming, gymnastics, and softball, among major sports such as football and basketball.
